Description
AM-ZOLID 600mg Tablets contain Linezolid, a synthetic oxazolidinone antibacterial agent.
Linezolid acts against susceptible Gram-positive bacteria by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.
Its approved reference indications include certain cases of pneumonia, complicated skin and skin-structure infections, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections.
Linezolid may be considered when the causative organism is known or strongly suspected to be susceptible and the patient’s clinical circumstances justify its use.
Therapeutic Indications
-
Hospital-acquired pneumonia caused by designated susceptible organisms.
-
Community-acquired pneumonia caused by specified susceptible bacteria.
-
Complicated skin and skin-structure infections, including certain diabetic foot infections without associated osteomyelitis.
-
Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections, including concurrent bacteremia.
Linezolid does not provide appropriate treatment for Gram-negative infections without additional indicated antibacterial coverage.
Dosage & Administration
For many approved adult indications, the U.S. reference dosage is 600mg orally every 12 hours.
Treatment commonly lasts 10–14 days for pneumonia and skin infections, or 14–28 days for VRE infections. Duration depends on diagnosis and clinical response.
Linezolid tablets can generally be taken with or without food. The actual dose and treatment duration must follow the physician’s prescription.
Side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, and abdominal discomfort. Serious adverse effects include thrombocytopenia, bone-marrow suppression, serotonin syndrome, optic or peripheral neuropathy, and lactic acidosis.
Contraindications & Precautions
Do not use in patients with known Linezolid hypersensitivity or contraindicated MAOI exposure.
Complete blood counts should be monitored weekly. Careful evaluation is needed for patients receiving serotonergic antidepressants, including CITA-VAZ (escitalopram).
Report unexplained bruising, visual changes, severe persistent diarrhoea, fever, agitation, or unusual muscle rigidity.
