Description

Elington 37.5mg/325mg Tablets combine two analgesic ingredients, Tramadol Hydrochloride and Paracetamol, to provide pain relief through complementary mechanisms of action.

Tramadol is a centrally acting opioid analgesic that influences pain signaling in the nervous system. Paracetamol is a non-opioid analgesic that provides additional pain-relieving activity.

The combination may be prescribed for short-term management of acute pain severe enough to require an opioid analgesic when suitable alternative pain treatments have not provided adequate relief or cannot be used.

The 50-tablet presentation contains the same active ingredients and strength per tablet as the 30-tablet formulation. Pack quantity does not change the recommended dose or permissible duration of treatment.

Elington should only be administered according to a physician’s prescription, with careful consideration of the risks associated with tramadol.

Therapeutic Indications

Short-term management of acute pain requiring opioid analgesia when alternative treatments are inadequate.

Dosage & Administration

Under current U.S. reference prescribing information, the usual initial adult regimen is two tablets every four to six hours as needed, with a maximum of eight tablets per day. The reference label limits treatment to five days or less.

For patients with severe renal impairment, specifically creatinine clearance below 30mL/min, the reference maximum is two tablets every 12 hours.

Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest clinically appropriate duration. These instructions require confirmation against Elington’s Pakistan-approved prescribing information.

Side effects

Common side effects include dizziness, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, constipation, sweating and loss of appetite.

More serious risks include respiratory depression, seizures, serotonin syndrome, severe allergic reactions, dependence, overdose and paracetamol-related liver damage.

Contraindications & Precautions

Elington should not be administered to patients with significant respiratory depression, severe uncontrolled asthma, known gastrointestinal obstruction, relevant drug hypersensitivity or concurrent MAOI treatment.

Tramadol-containing medicines are contraindicated in children younger than 12 years and following tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy in patients younger than 18 years under U.S. reference labeling.

Particular caution is necessary in patients with epilepsy, sleep-related breathing disorders, liver disease, kidney impairment or a history of substance misuse.

Avoid combining with alcohol, benzodiazepines, other opioids, sedatives or additional paracetamol-containing medicines. Serotonergic antidepressants and certain other medicines may increase the risks of seizures and serotonin syndrome.

Patients should be warned against driving or operating machinery if drowsy or impaired.
