Description
AM-ZOLID 100mg/5mL Suspension contains Linezolid, an oxazolidinone antibacterial agent used for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria.
Linezolid acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and has activity against certain resistant organisms, including MRSA and VRE.
This preparation may be prescribed for susceptible bacterial pneumonia, selected skin and soft-tissue infections, and other infections covered by the approved prescribing information.
The 100mL presentation contains the same concentration as the 60mL product; only the final prepared volume differs.
Therapeutic Indications
Selected hospital-acquired and community-acquired pneumonia, skin and skin-structure infections, and infections caused by vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, according to organism susceptibility and approved labeling.
Dosage & Administration
The suspension provides 100mg Linezolid per 5mL after correct reconstitution. The physician determines the dose by indication, patient age, weight, and clinical condition.
For reference, U.S. labeling generally recommends 600mg every 12 hours for many serious adult infections, with weight-based schedules for children. Duration varies by infection.
The dry powder must be reconstituted by a pharmacist or according to the product’s validated instructions. Gently mix the reconstituted medicine as directed before measuring a dose.
Side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, headache and gastrointestinal discomfort. Less common but serious effects include low platelet counts, anemia, neuropathy, serotonin syndrome and lactic acidosis.
Contraindications & Precautions
Avoid in patients with Linezolid hypersensitivity or contraindicated monoamine oxidase inhibitor exposure.
Regular blood-count monitoring is important, particularly in extended treatment and patients at increased risk of bone-marrow suppression.
Assess interactions with antidepressants, opioids and certain medicines that may increase blood pressure. Report visual disturbances, abnormal bruising, or symptoms suggesting serotonin syndrome promptly.
Reconstitution and storage: Confirm the water volume, mixing procedure, and expiry after reconstitution against the approved AM-ZOLID 100mL insert.
