Description

Rymoti 5 mg tablets contain Enalapril Maleate, a prescription antihypertensive medicine belonging to the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor class.

Enalapril reduces the formation of angiotensin II, helping relax blood vessels, decrease vascular resistance and lower blood pressure.

Enalapril is used to treat hypertension and may also be prescribed for symptomatic heart failure or to prevent the development of symptomatic heart failure in selected patients with left ventricular dysfunction.

The 5mg strength is a common initial dose for adults with hypertension who are not taking diuretics, according to U.S. reference prescribing information. Patients with impaired kidney function or receiving diuretic therapy may require a lower starting dose.

Verified Therapeutic Indications

  • Hypertension.

  • Symptomatic congestive heart failure.

  • Prevention of symptomatic heart failure in clinically stable patients with asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction and a left ventricular ejection fraction of 35% or less.

Dosage & Administration

For adult hypertension, the usual reference starting dose in patients not taking diuretics is 5mg once daily. The subsequent dosage is adjusted to blood pressure response.

Heart failure treatment generally begins at a lower dose under medical supervision. Treatment must be individualized.

Possible Side Effects

Dry cough, dizziness, headache, fatigue, low blood pressure and increased potassium. Changes in kidney function may occur. Rare but serious angioedema requires emergency medical attention.

Contraindications & Precautions

Avoid during pregnancy. Contraindicated in patients with previous ACE inhibitor-associated angioedema or hereditary or idiopathic angioedema. Do not combine with sacubitril/valsartan without the required 36-hour separation.
