Description

Priulvi 80mg Tablets contain Telmisartan, a prescription antihypertensive medicine belonging to the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) class.

Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II AT1 receptors, reducing blood vessel constriction and helping lower blood pressure.

The 80mg strength is the upper end of the usual recommended adult dose range for hypertension under U.S. prescribing information.

Telmisartan 80mg also has a specific cardiovascular risk-reduction indication in patients aged 55 years or older who are at high risk of major cardiovascular events and unable to take ACE inhibitors.

Eligible patients may include those with established coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, previous stroke or high-risk diabetes with evidence of end-organ damage.

This indication requires individual medical assessment and should not be interpreted as a general recommendation for every patient with hypertension.

Dosage & Administration

For hypertension, Telmisartan 80mg once daily is the upper end of the usual recommended dosage range.

For the specific cardiovascular risk-reduction indication, the reference recommended dose is 80mg once daily.

Telmisartan can be administered with or without food. The physician should monitor blood pressure and adjust other antihypertensive medicines when necessary.

Possible Side Effects

Dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, back pain, and hypotension. Kidney function changes and hyperkalemia may occur, particularly in susceptible patients.

Contraindications & Precautions

Telmisartan carries a boxed warning for fetal toxicity. It should be discontinued promptly when pregnancy is detected, under medical guidance.

Contraindications include known hypersensitivity to telmisartan and concurrent aliskiren use in patients with diabetes.

Important precautions include dehydration, hypotension, impaired kidney or liver function, and increased potassium levels.

Avoid unnecessary dual blockade of the renin-angiotensin system. Review concurrent NSAIDs, potassium-containing salt substitutes, potassium supplements, and other interacting medicines.
