Description
Nosofedril 30mg/2mg Tablets contain Pioglitazone and Glimepiride, two oral antidiabetic agents that work through complementary mechanisms to help regulate blood glucose levels.
Pioglitazone belongs to the thiazolidinedione class and improves insulin sensitivity in muscle and adipose tissue while reducing insulin resistance.
Glimepiride belongs to the sulfonylurea class and stimulates insulin secretion from functioning pancreatic beta cells.
The combination may be prescribed for adults with type 2 diabetes who require both agents to achieve adequate glycemic control.
The 30mg/2mg strength provides a lower glimepiride dose than the 30mg/4mg formulation and may be selected according to previous treatment, blood glucose levels and risk of hypoglycemia.
Treatment should be combined with appropriate dietary management, physical activity and regular blood glucose monitoring.
Verified Therapeutic Indications
-
Improvement of glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
-
Combination treatment when both Pioglitazone and Glimepiride are clinically appropriate.
-
Replacement of separately administered components at equivalent doses when appropriate.
Not indicated for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Dosage & Administration
Reference prescribing information recommends taking the fixed-dose combination once daily with the first main meal.
The 30mg/2mg strength may be selected when initiating combination therapy in appropriate patients, when glycemic control with one component is inadequate, or when replacing an established separate-tablet regimen.
Dosage must be individualized according to treatment response, tolerability and risk of hypoglycemia.
Possible Side Effects
Hypoglycemia, headache, dizziness, weight gain, peripheral edema and upper respiratory tract infections may occur.
Serious adverse reactions include severe hypoglycemia, worsening heart failure, liver injury and hypersensitivity reactions.
Contraindications & Precautions
-
Initiation is contraindicated in patients with established NYHA Class III or IV heart failure.
-
Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to the ingredients or a history of allergic reactions to sulfonamide derivatives.
