Description

Elington 37.5mg/325mg Tablets contain a combination of Tramadol Hydrochloride, an opioid analgesic, and Paracetamol (Acetaminophen), a non-opioid analgesic.

Tramadol acts on the central nervous system through opioid receptor activity and modulation of neurotransmitter reuptake involved in pain signaling. Paracetamol provides additional analgesic activity through mechanisms that are not fully understood.

This combination is used for the short-term management of acute pain when an opioid-containing medicine is clinically necessary and alternative treatments are inadequate.

Elington is intended for prescription use under medical supervision because tramadol carries risks of dependence, respiratory depression, seizures and potentially serious drug interactions.

Therapeutic Indications

Short-term treatment of acute pain severe enough to require opioid analgesia when alternative treatment options are insufficient, ineffective or unsuitable.

Dosage & Administration

The current U.S. reference label describes an initial adult regimen of two tablets every four to six hours as needed, not exceeding eight tablets in 24 hours, for no longer than five days. Lower doses or longer intervals may be required for certain patients, including those with renal impairment.

This is reference information, not a verified Elington-specific dosing instruction. The prescribing physician must determine the actual dose and duration.

Side effects

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, sweating, and reduced appetite.

Serious reactions may include respiratory depression, seizures, serotonin syndrome, dependence, overdose and liver injury.

Contraindications & Precautions

Contraindicated in children younger than 12 years, patients younger than 18 following tonsil or adenoid surgery, patients with significant respiratory depression, uncontrolled severe asthma, gastrointestinal obstruction or known hypersensitivity to the ingredients. Use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping them is contraindicated.

Avoid alcohol, benzodiazepines and other sedating medicines because their combination with tramadol can cause dangerous breathing suppression. Do not combine with other medicines containing tramadol or paracetamol.

Antidepressants such as SSRIs and SNRIs may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome and seizures. Pregnancy requires specialist assessment, and breastfeeding is not recommended under the reviewed U.S. label.
