Description

CITA-VAZ 5mg Tablets contain Escitalopram, an antidepressant belonging to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor class.

Escitalopram inhibits serotonin reuptake in the central nervous system, increasing serotonin availability in neuronal signaling pathways involved in mood and anxiety regulation.

The 5mg strength may be selected when a clinician considers a lower dose or gradual dose adjustment appropriate.

Therapeutic Indications

Escitalopram is indicated under U.S. reference labeling for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, subject to age and local regulatory requirements.

Dosage & Administration

The usual U.S. adult starting dose for these conditions is 10mg once daily. A 5mg dose may be used for individualized treatment when clinically appropriate.

Escitalopram may be taken morning or evening, with or without food. Do not discontinue abruptly; dose reduction should be medically supervised.

Side effects

Nausea, headache, dizziness, sleepiness, insomnia, increased sweating, fatigue, and sexual dysfunction.

Contraindications & Precautions

Contraindicated with MAO inhibitors, including starting treatment during Linezolid administration, with pimozide, or in patients with relevant hypersensitivity.

Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, particularly in younger patients and during dose changes. Other risks include serotonin syndrome, low sodium levels, abnormal bleeding, and mania in susceptible patients.
