Description
CITA-VAZ 20mg Tablets contain Escitalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor used for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder.
Escitalopram acts by inhibiting serotonin reuptake in the central nervous system, helping regulate serotonergic neurotransmission.
The 20mg strength represents the maximum recommended adult daily dose under current U.S. reference prescribing information.
This strength may be prescribed when a patient’s clinical response and tolerability justify a higher dosage. It is not the routine adult starting dose, and the reference label reports no consistently greater benefit for 20mg compared with 10mg in fixed-dose depression trials.
Therapeutic Indications
-
Major depressive disorder.
-
Generalized anxiety disorder.
-
Patients requiring higher-dose Escitalopram treatment following medical assessment.
Dosage & Administration
The usual adult starting dosage is 10mg once daily. The dose may be increased to a maximum of 20mg once daily when clinically appropriate, generally after at least one week.
Dose selection requires additional care in older adults, patients with liver impairment, and those taking interacting medicines.
Side effects
Nausea, headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances, sweating, fatigue and sexual dysfunction. Higher doses can increase the likelihood of some adverse effects.
Contraindications & Precautions

Precautions include suicidal thoughts and behaviours, serotonin syndrome, abnormal bleeding, low sodium, mania, seizure disorders, and cardiac rhythm concerns in susceptible patients.
Escitalopram should not be discontinued suddenly without clinical guidance.
